Undoubtedly the most stylish, social and sporting event of the Charlotte region, tens of thousands flock to this annual Carolina Rite of Spring, the last Saturday of every April, where food and drink are in abundance and everyone is dressed in their chicest spring fashions. The Queen’s Cup has none of the formality of a great occasion but all of the glamour – it’s the Spring Time Place to Be where socializing hits high gear. It’s Charlotte’s own Kentucky Derby!

There are several options when it comes to picking a tailgate package that’s just right for you. Have a look at the map below, along with the descriptions and pricing, to see which size tailgate space best meets your needs and budget. Whatever you do, you can’t miss the Queen’s Cup as it only comes around once every year and it’s a can’t miss event.

Dubbed by many as the “The Party & Social Event of the Year”, the 17th Annual Queen’s Cup Steeplechase, held Saturday, April 28, 2012 will be the springtime place to be. Key points you probably might want to know:

  • Last year, many tailgating categories sold out several weeks before the event, so don’t delay to avoid disappointment. Individual tickets (or badges) are also available if you plan to meet your friends at their tailgate space.
  • The maximum allowed size vehicle in most tailgate spaces is 7′ high x 18 feet long. See each category for strictly enforced guidlines. If you’re not sure, please call our office for further details and explanation: (704) 843-7070.
  • Remember, Kids 12 and under accompanied by an adult, are FREE and do NOT need a General Admission badge, except on Member’s Hill, Paddock, Spring House Row, and Club House Turn.
  • There is one heck of an after race party, a.k.a. The Hot Walk Party, that is FREE for ALL ticketed subscribers. What a way to finish off the day by taking a stroll after the last race to the BIG TENT on Member’s Hill. The Hot Walk Party features live music from the six piece band Kingdaddy, cash bar, free water and soft drinks and free hors d’ oeuvres courtesy of Something Classic.
  • Limited Bus Parking Availability. Please contact the Queen’s Cup Office (704) 843-7070 at least ten (10) days prior to the race for permit prices and other details.
  • Personal Space Licenses (PSL) are available for sale in most tailgating areas of the racecourse. Over 25% of all tailgate spaces have been sold as PSLs.

All Lawn Box packages offer access to the Elkridge Club located within the Club House atop Member’s Hill. This is a secure area located outside of the first turn and designed for corporate entertainment with railside action and people watching. A reserved 20′ x 20′ hospitality tent includes 15 Clubhouse Turn parking passes and 40 Club House Turn badges. The Club House Turn is a secured area and all guests must have a Club House Turn Badge to enter. Horses are just inches away from a Paddock tailgate

PADDOCK ENCLOSURE

This is a secured area located on the inside rail of the front stretch. Subscribers enjoy the racing while tailgating in a large 12′ x 40′ reserved parking space. PADDOCK PARKING VEHICLE DIMENSIONS CAN NOT EXCEED SEVEN (7) FEET IN TOTAL HEIGHT AND THIRTY (30) FEET IN TOTAL LENGTH. Includes 1 Paddock car pass, 2 Paddock badges and a 5 ft. round umbrella table with a white linen tablecloth. Because the Paddock has such a high concentration of PSL holders, there are a limited number of tailgates offered for lease in the Paddock Enclosure, so to avoid disappointment, we strongly urge purchase as early as possible. A maximum of 14 people allowed in each tailgate space. Paddock badges may be purchased by the PSL holder or Subscriber only either through the Web site or by calling the office. - MEADOWS RAIL & BACK ROW

THE MEADOWS is an upscale tailgate enclosure offering two types of tailgating entertainment for somewhat larger groups in an oversized 15′ x 40 ‘ reserved parking spaces, either right on the racecourse running rail on one tailgate space back. You’re just steps from the infield activities including Brooklandwood Village and the Canine Agility Expo.
Please note the following:

  • A maximum of four (4) Meadows tailgate spaces may be purchased by one buyer
  • MEADOWS PARKING VEHICLE DIMENSIONS can not exceed 7 feet in height and 30 feet in total length
  • A maximum of 14 people allowed in each tailgate space
  • Chairs can be specially ordered through Classic Party Rentals by calling 704-523-9300

MEADOWS RAIL + a Market Umbrella, Table and Linen Included! Includes one reserved oversized 15′ x 40′ parking space, right on on the racecourse running rail. Includes a marketplace umbrella table with white linen, tablecloth plus 2 General Admission badges.

Tailgate options abound in the infield tailgate area

- RESERVED INFIELD TAILGATE PARKING AREAS -

OPTIONS ABOUND in the infield offering something for everyone at various price points and needs. All tailgate spaces are 12′ x 20′ and are reserved in your very own name if you order early. Each tailgate category is only a short walk to the infield activities including Brooklandwood Village and the Jack RussellTerrier Races. Each of these areas are always a sell-out so order early!

Please note the following:

  • A maximum of four (4) tailgate spaces may be purchased by one buyer in this area
  • PARKING VEHICLE DIMENSIONS can not exceed 7 feet in height and 18 feet in total length
  • A maximum of 12 people allowed in each tailgate space

WITHERS The Withers is for tailgaters who want infield, hillside parking with a nice view towards the finishing stretch. Your reserved tailgate parking space include 2 General Admission badges.

OLD HILLTOP Named after Old Hilltop in historic Pimlico racecourse in Baltimore, this Old Hilltop is nestled beneath old White Oaks,while sitting just above the Crest & just below Turn 3 of the racecourse. Your reserved tailgate parking space include 2 General Admission badges.

CROUP (a family area) This is a wildly successful tailgating area we introduced in 2008 and is designed for families with kids in mind! Croup is situated just below the Withers. THIS AREA IS DESIGNED FOR FAMILIES WITH SMALL CHILDREN! PSL’s are NOT available for this area.

RESERVED GENERAL ADMISSION PARKING LOT (AA) Reserve a spot nearest the racecourse in the Upper General Admission Lot AA for the least amount of walking to the Infield. The General Admission parking lot is first-come-first-serve and can over flow into the lower lot giving you a twenty-minute walk to the nearest Infield Crossing or having to take the free Shuttle. These spots may also be reserved for guests of Paddock and Valley View tailgate patrons.This is not a tailgating spot and the races cannot be viewed from these parking spots.

Reserved GA Parking (AA): $50.00 PER CAR


GREEN SPRING PARKING For the convenience of those joining you at your tailgate space, we want to remind you of our parking area called Green spring. This lot is just a short walk through a tree-lined path leading to Turn 4 near the Meadows and the car crossing to the Withers, Crest and Old Hilltop. The entrance to Green Spring is located at our Gate 4 off of Old Waxhaw-Monroe Road. The map accompanying your passes will direct you to Gate 4. Green Spring Parking Passes (limit 2 per reserved tailgate space) may be purchased in advance for $50 per car. These passes will only be made available to the individual who has purchased a tailgating space(s) in the Meadows, Withers, Crest, Old Hilltop or Croup. Please respect the maximum number of guests allowed in your tailgate space and remember that all persons over the age of 12 must wear a General Admission Badge. GENERAL ADMISSION BADGES - KIDS 12 and under are FREE! All persons entering the race grounds must have a General Admission Badge except for children 12 & under that are accompanied by an adult. General Admission Parking and On-site Shuttle are FREE! Please remember that there is no permanent seating in the General Admission area, so bring something to sit on. There is usually a food vendor on site. Coolers are permitted. General admission badges ARE NOT ALLOWED access to Member’s Hill, Club House Turn, Spring House Row or Paddock Tailgating areas.
